Aquaventure Expansion, Dubai
Wicks executed Vibro-Compaction for the extension of the Dubai Waterpark “Atlantis Aquaventure”. Prior to construction of the new attractions, compaction was required to limit future settlements of the freshly reclaimed reclamation. Due to the thickness of the sand layers, Vibro-Compaction was chosen as the preferred compaction technique.
The project was executed at the crescent of the iconic Palm Dubai, next to The Royal Atlantis hotel. Besides the existing water park, the theme park also features Dolphin Bay, a dolphin conservation and education habitat, and Sea Lion Point.
During the compaction works disturbance to the hotel and theme park were kept to a minimum. In addition precautions were taken for the sensitive dolphins in the nearby animal encounter attraction to remain safe and well.
Wicks supported our customer in developing an alternative foundation solution for one of the key new attractions of the waterpark. The foundation for the 34-metre tall “Trident Tower”, with 12 new water slides, was originally designed with concrete piles.
By providing value engineering, Wicks assisted the customer to re-designed the concrete piles into stone columns. By installing stone columns Wicks was able to provide a faster and cheaper solution with a lower impact on the sensitive surroundings compared to piling.
